Game 12 V Raby Castle CC

Most of the group went to York (Yorkshire) this morning and spent the day in this ancient Roman city, while some stayed back in Croft on Tees to relax and unwind.
Tonight we were off to the castle, Raby Castle, for what has been coined our ‘Legends Game.’ The ground had to be seen to be believed. Castles, moats, deer, cows, bulls, pheasants, lords, ladies and OH!…..a cricket pitch….it was all here at Raby.
Stats: Adrian Betts 1 / 2, David Brooks 27 Retired hurt, Mark Moffat 2, 0/12 Chris Brooks 1, 0/7 Matthew Thompson 0/5 Andrew Thompson 2, 2/17 Ranjie Oliver 37 Glenn Whelan 1/11 Brian Burke 1, 0/10 Mick Cleary 0, 0/18 Neil Thewlis 5, 0/2 Gary Ennals 1, 0/16 Adam Jackson 15
Wattlesprigs 9/104 def Raby Castle CC 4/103 Mug: Brian ‘Steele Man’ Burke
Many highlights here today on the cricket pitch including the Brooks brothers batting together, Brian ‘Steele man’ Bourke batting without gloves and slaying them at the Wheat sheath Hotel, Mick ‘carry me home’ Cleary’s captaincy, duck and slip cordon, Neil Thewlis’ boundary for 4 runs and Gary Ennals’ first and only run in England including a rendition of ‘Wattlesprigs 2009 the beer is good and the cricket’s fine’ song that will sit in the minds of the Raby villagers forever. Winning in the last over of the day was also a special moment and the song was sung loudly in Lord Barnard’s cricket dressing rooms. Amazing day of cricket. Bucket list ticked again……just keeps on getting better!
