The Sprigs ventured to Stamford Town Cricket Club today for their 14th scheduled game of cricket. Stamford is in the county of Lincolnshire and is an old Roman town with 17th century structures. The Garden House Hotel where we stayed was built in 1674! Great to catch up with Hudson and Fiona (Hudson’s dad is Don Batty, who wrote our Wattlesprigs song) Huddo lives in Stamford and organised the fixture for us. Fiona also made the arvo teas and lunches…..a great spread which will be hard to match. The sprigs batted 1st and made 221 for 4, with Mark Moffat making a brilliant 121 on a biggish ground and ‘soft deck’ conditions. Gary Duns bowled magnificently taking 4/21. Huddo skippered the Stamford team and top scored with 36 runs and took 2 excellent catches.
Stats: Mark Wells 21, Rick Jones 1/35, Matt Edwards 20, 0/9 Mark Moffat 121, Rob Comberford 0/25, Greg Duns 5, 2/22 Gary Duns 4/21 Travis Noy 1/27 Greg Thompson 2/17 Andrew Thompson 40, 0/24 Keith Doyle 9, 0/6
Wattlesprigs 4/221 Stamford Town CC 10/193
Off to Long Melford today via Cambridge for some punting down the River Cam. We may even find a TV screen to hopefully watch one of the greatest ever Ashes victories in history…Go Aussies.
